'A SPELL of strong winds' is set to hit Somerset and residents are being warned to expect travel disruption due to high winds.

The Met Office has issued the 'yellow' weather warning for wind across the South and South West of England.

The warning is in place from until 9pm today (March 16).

A spokesman for the Met Office, said: "A spell of strong winds is expected to affect southern UK, the strongest winds adjacent to coasts in the west and south.

"Some coastal routes, sea fronts and coastal communities affected by spray and/or large waves

"Delays to public transport are likely, with longer journey times for rail and bus services.

"Difficult driving conditions are possible, with delays for high-sided vehicles on exposed routes and bridges the main concern."
