A GROUP which helps men learn skills and make friends is hosting an open day in a bid to bring more members to the club.

Burnham and Highbridge Men’s Shed Society, which launched in 2017, has been struggling to keep members despite moving into a new premises in 2018.

The group meets twice a week and works on a variety of projects which help men pursue their practical interests.

Tony Cradock, chairman of the society, said it has been a tough few months for club but he has high hopes the open day will bring in new members.

He said: “Over the last few months our membership has depleted as we are mainly aimed at the older population and we are on the search for new members to join the club.

“Sadly, some of our members have died or left due to illness and there just are not enough people using the club at the moment.

“We have some great facilities here and it is such a shame that we just don’t have the members any more.

“We have had a really positive response since we started the Men’s Shed last year and we have a great home at the Morland Hall with some fantastic facilities which mean our members can get the most out of the time they spend here.

“We have also set up a ladies shed and a modelling club and have had a brilliant response from people and we don’t want it to stop.”

Members of the men’s shed group will be at the Morland Hall from 10am until 3pm on Saturday, March 23 and will be on hand to answer questions and give visitors a tour of the club’s facilities.

Tony added: “If you have ever thought about learning new skills please come in and see us.

“We have some great facilities and equipment here as well as groups for men and women so don’t miss out.”
