A 60-year-old plastic washing-up liquid bottle has been found washed up on the beach.

Stephen Fox was "dismayed" to find the weathered Doby bottle washed up on Brean beach near Burnham-on-Sea.

The bottle dates back to the mid-1950s - but it is not known how long it has been in the sea.

Stephen said: "I was doing a beach clean and I was dismayed by how much plastic there was on Brean beach.

"I found this bottle. I thought it may be old and a quick Google search confirms it’s from the 50’s or 60’s."

The worn-out bottle has the words: “Doby washing up liquid”, with a Royal crest at the top.

The Museum of Plastic Design at the University of Bournemouth has a bottle in its collection dating back to the mid-1950s.

The discovery comes after a 47-year-old washing-up bottle was found washed up on the same beach in October 2018.

Regular beach cleans are held in Burnham-On-Sea, Brean and Berrow to remove large amounts of plastic rubbish being washed up.
