VOLUNTEERS from Marie Curie raised more than £250 by visiting the town with a special daffodil book.

On Saturday (March 23) scores of people visited the Signal Box in Old Station Approach in Burnham-on-Sea and wrote stories about their loved ones in the book and volunteers collected donations for daffodil pins.

The volunteers raised and raised £288.37 and the funds will help Marie Curie Nurses be there for more people living with a terminal illness.

Marie Curie nurses visit people in their own homes across Somerset to give one-to-one care and support to the people who are looking after them – helping families and carers to make the most of the time they have together.

The charity also provides practical information and support, funds research and campaigns for more people to have access to high quality, personalised care wherever and whenever they need it.

Riona Houghton, Marie Curie’s Community Fundraiser for Somerset, said she is hoping to get more people than ever wearing the daffodil pin in the county during the Great Daffodil Appeal.

She said: "Thank you for donating in Burnham, sharing your story or tribute in our special Daffodil Book and to the volunteers who helped raise money for the Great Daffodil Appeal.

"Whatever your story, donating and wearing a daffodil pin during March unites you with millions of others to help make sure all dying people get the care and support they deserve."

The money raised from the Great Daffodil Appeal will help the charity provide much-needed expert care to people with terminal illnesses, as well as supporting their families.
