A NEW passenger lift which has been installed at Burnham Association of Sports Clubs (BASC) is set to be unveiled at a special ceremony.

Representatives from organisations which helped fund the project, the Mayor of Burnham-on-Sea and Highbridge Cllr Bill Hancock and Mike Cresswell, chairman of Sedgemoor District Council will be attending the event at the club in Old Stoddens Road at noon on March 30.

Neil McKen, project manager for BASC, said: “The BASC was originally built in 1975 with the changing rooms at ground floor level and the main clubhouse bar at first floor level. The only means of access to the first floor facility was by way of an internal or external staircase.

“After many requests from members to do something about it the BASC committee commissioned a plan to install a lift.

“A location for the lift was identified, building regulations approval was gained, funding was secured and the lift was installed last year.”

The private event will be followed by a buffet lunch and a match between Burnham-on-Sea1st team and Nailsea.
