A HIGHBRIDGE sixth form student has been praised by her school after she won the prestigious Rotary Youth Leadership Award (RYLA).

Nina Randall, a year 12 student at The King Alfred School, an Academy (TKASA) endured a one-week intensive course at Dartmoor and successfully completed a number of challenges including abseiling, navigation and public speaking.

The Rotary Youth Leadership Award is a leadership program coordinated by Rotary Clubs around the globe.

Since she won the award, Nina has been mentoring younger students at the school and the school says she has shown 'excellent leadership potential.'

Jonathan Gaskell, head of sixth form at TKASA, said: “Nina deservedly won her place on this prestigious programme after impressing the Rotarians with her drive and leadership potential.

“Nina is not shy to put herself forward for new challenges and she is becoming one of the key leaders in the TKASA Sixth Form.

“Since completing the RYLA Award, Nina has become a mentor for Year 11 students on Saturday mornings, sharing her positive work ethic with the next generation of would-be sixth formers in advance of the GCSE exams.”
