A FORMER building society in Burnham-on-Sea could be transformed into a new desserts restaurant if plans are approved.

The applicant, Daniel Fear Architectural Services, is seeking planning permission to change the use of the former building society building in College Street into a restaurant.

The site in College Street was home to Britannia Building Society and the Co-operative Bank before it closed in 2016.

In a design and access statement, the applicant said: "The proposed use of the building would be as a restaurant my client is keen to open a business that will serve a selection of hot and cold desserts including Belgian waffles and crepes cooking and served on site, cheesecake cakes, cakes, soft scoop ice cream and sundaes.

"It is proposed that the front area (formerly the public area of the building society) would become a sit down restaurant area.

The back office would be converted in to a kitchen where hot and cold puddings would be prepared.

The existing toilet would be retained and the courtyard to the rear will be used for waste bins prior to collection."
