A FORMER bank building could be turned into four self contained flats if plans are approved.

Applicant, GCGP Properties Limited, is seeking planning permission to change the use of a former HSBC bank in College Street into four self contained flats.

One the ground floor, two one bedroom flats are proposed and one has access from College Street and the other has access from the rear.

And on the first floor a two bedroom flat is proposed with access from the rear via a new metal staircase and on the second floor a one bedroom flat is proposed.

The former bank building has remained derelict since its closure in 2017 and is located just off the town's High Street.

In their design and access statement GCGP Properties Limited said: "33 College Street is located within the Town Centre of Burnham-on-sea, a highly sustainable location having access to a range of public services, facilities and employment opportunities.

"The street comprises a mix of residential and shops.

"No parking bays are proposed for the flats, as the development is in a highly sustainable location, having access to a range of public services, facilities and employment opportunities.

"The presence of bus services with bus stops located nearby will help encourage future occupants to use public transports as opposed to a private vehicle."

Comments are welcome on the application until April 30.
