AN Avon and Somerset Police detective has been sacked for failing to give a breath roadside breath test.
DC Emma George was dismissed following a special case hearing at police HQ chaired by Chief Constable Andy Marsh.
George was convicted at North Somerset Magistrates’ Court in February of failing to provide a specimen of breath for a roadside test on December 11 last year.
She was banned from driving for 17 months, required to attend a drink-drive awareness course and fined £800.
At yesterday’s hearing, the Chief Constable said George has been convicted of a “serious offence”.
He said the decision to dismiss George without notice was made to protect public confidence in policing and maintain high professional standards.
