MORE than 1,000 people braved the wet weather to show their support for Sopha in Highbridge as it officially launched its store to the public.
On Saturday (April 27) scores of people packed into the store in Church Street and enjoyed a free community with a variety of stalls and live music and entertainment.
Weston-super-Mare X Factor star Kezia Povey performed at the event as well as Lisa Marie School of Dance.
Matt Scott, owner of Sopha, said he was concerned the event would not go ahead due to Storm Hannah but was pleased so many people came out and showed their support.
He said: "Gale force winds meant our marquees were blowing away and many of our stall holders were cancelling.
"The decision was made to clear the remainder of our warehouse into the St. John Ambulance hall and hold the craft market in our two rear storerooms.
"It was a real privilege to have so much local support from so many people including the mayor, mayoress, town crier and many many more who were either involved in or turned out for the event.
"Fundraising activities on the day raised £392.50 for our defibrillator appeal and we’d like to thank everyone who contributed."
