VOLUNTEERS from The Burnham-on-Sea Friends of Weston Hospicecare are celebrating after it was revealed that they were one of a number of groups who helped to raise more than £23,000 for the charity.
The dedicated Burnham group hosted a variety of community fundraising events in 2018 to help raise £23,603.57 for the charity and the group said it has more planned for 2019.
Phil Thorne, who volunteers for The Burnham-on-Sea Friends of Weston Hospicecare said this year they will be hosting a number of open garden events to raise funds and thanked residents for their support.
He said: “We are proud of our fundraising success, in support of the hospice.”
It costs Weston Hospicecare £4.2 million to run the hospice each year and only 19 per cent of this total is government funded.
The hospice has 10 In patient beds, runs a day hospital three days a week and also works within the community
