AN investigation has been launched after a man who crashed a car ran from the scene leaving a woman and a baby behind.

Berrow Road in Burnham-on-Sea was closed on Sunday(May 12) after the car crashed into a lamppost and a garden wall before ending up on its roof in the early hours of the morning.

Police said a woman and an infant have been taken to hospital with ‘non –life-threatening injuries' and they are appealing for any witnesses to the incident to come forward.

A spokesman for Avon and Somerset Police, said: “We were called at 12.16am to a single vehicle collision on Berrow Road, Burnham-on-Sea.

“A car had collided with a lamppost and a garden wall before ending up on its roof.

“The driver of the vehicle made off from the scene and efforts to locate him are ongoing.

“A woman and an infant, who were passengers in the vehicle, have been taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries."
