RESPECTED jazz musicians will be gathering at Ilminster Arts Centre on May 24 for a concert that is highly anticipated by local jazz fans.

Featuring a stellar line up of saxophonists Alan Barnes and Art Themen, plus the Dave Newton Trio, the concert will centre on a mix of well-known modern jazz standards, played in light hearted and accessible style.

Alan Barnes’ strong tone, assured improvisations and imaginative arranging technique have marked him out as one of the country’s top players, respected by both his audience and fellow players alike.

Art Themen was a member of the award winning Cambridge University jazz band from 1958 to 1961 and subsequently became part of the early London blues scene, playing alongside Alexis Korner, Jack Bruce, Mick Jagger and Chuck Berry.
