‘THIS year we are going for gold’

Those are the words of Dave Perrett, organiser of Burnham in Bloom, who said he is hoping the town will take home a gold medal in this year’s South West in Bloom Awards.

Dave said he has been hard at work preparing the town for the event and for Burnham in Bloom which sees residents from across the town submit their floral creations to a team of judges.

Burnham in Bloom has 16 categories to enter, ranging from best front garden to the best decorated shop window and with summer fast approaching, organisers from Burnham in Bloom want to try and beat last year’s efforts.

Dave Perrett, organiser of Burnham in Bloom, said: “This year we are going for gold at the South West in Bloom Awards.

“Last year we won silver and I think we could have won gold if it hadn’t have been for the state of the containers.

“This year we have cleaned them out and planted them for the summer and Sedgemoor District Council has taken over doing all of the hanging baskets.

“We are very thankful to all of the shops in Burnham who have sponsored containers and to the owners who are making the effort to go out and water them.

“We are looking forward to seeing this year’s entries and hope we impress the South West in Bloom judges.”

The organisers of Burnham in Bloom have also launched a picture competition for children at The King Alfred School in Burnham and Dave said they are looking for more volunteers to join their team.

He said: “There is only me and one other person on the committee so it takes a lot of effort to get this organised and to get the town ready for South West in Bloom.

“We would love it if more volunteers came and joined us to help us each year with South West in Bloom. If you could spare a few hours a week it would be a great help.”
