A WEEKEND of successful summer fun topped with sunshine and smiles capped off annual Ilminster’s Midsummer Festival.

The event, also known as IMEx, drew strong crowds as the rain stayed away, with Sunday’s festivities in particular drawing a strong turnout.

Mike Fry-Foley, one of the organisers, said: “It was good and we were very lucky with the weather.

“Saturday was up to standard and we had a good number of people, and Sunday was even better really.

“We believe we had a record number of cars at the rec.

“The community lunch was well attended and we have to thank Harlequin Carnival Club. They were very happy with that and we had people outside drinking and eating from 11.30am.

“The strolling garage sale has been going for a number of years now, where people in Ilminster have their own pitches out. We had a lot of people interested and that seemed really busy this time around.”

The event is always held on the second Sunday of June, with next year due for June 14.
