A WEST END composer visited students at a Highbridge school to give them inspiration ahead of their performance of Guys & Dolls.

Stuart Brayson currently works with Sir Tim Rice and spoke positively about what he had seen from the budding drama students when he visited The King Alfred School earlier this month.

The talented composer gave the pupils tips and information about breaking into the performing arts industry.

Speaking about his visit, Mr Brayson, said “I loved being in Somerset, reliving many of my childhood holiday memories, and what a joy to see and hear so many talented youngsters being excited and passionate about musical theatre.

“I was made very welcome by both young and old(er) throughout my trip.

"The evening at the McMillan was a joy superbly organised by the incredible Tal Barrett and RE Act.

“The talented students showed huge promise.

"I wish I could have stayed to see their Guys and Dolls which looked fantastic. I hope to return soon to see them perhaps perform one of my musicals.

"The future of musical theatre in Somerset looks very bright indeed.

Laura Whiteoak, head of music and head of creative arts, said the students been hard at work rehearsing for their production of Guys & Dolls at The Princess Theatre and Arts Centre on June 16 and 17 and they enjoyed Stuart's visit.

She said: “Stuart was really inspirational to our students and he spoke well about what it takes to make it within the West End."
