THE Mayor of North Petherton Alan Bradford has been re-elected for his sixth term, but says this will be his last wearing the town's mayoral chains.

Cllr Bradford was re-elected in May, but urged other councillors who might be willing to take over the role to work with him over the next 12 months to experience what is involved.

Cllr Bradford said he feels the mayoralty is an important role and one he enjoys undertaking.

"I was particularly proud to have represented North Petherton Town Council as a guest of the Queen at a recent garden party held at Buckingham Palace," Cllr Bradford said.

However he stressed that he felt the day-to-day interaction with the community was the most important aspect of being mayor.

"The job is getting bigger each year," Cllr Bradford said.

"The responsibility has increased with the number of houses, hotels and industrial units in the area increased dramatically, but also in scope, as the town council has taken on new roles such as operating the town library."
