SCORES of people lined the streets of Burnham-on-Sea to pay tribute to veterans at an Armed Forces Day parade.
Dozens of local veterans, representatives from armed forces charities and cadets marched through the town on Saturday (June 29) to music from Burnham and Highbridge Brass Band.
Onlookers cheered and waved flags as deputy mayor Cllr Bill Hancock, chairman of Sedgemoor District Counci, Cllr Peter Clayton and Burnham MP and former soldier, James Heappey, who served as a major in the rifles, marched alongside veterans through Burnham’s High Street.
After the parade ended in Abingdon Street a special flag raising ceremony took place which included speeches from Mayor’s cadet William Leader, John Crosby from The Royal British Legion and Deputy Lord Lieutenant Tom Lang.
Cllr Bill Hancock, deputy mayor of Burnham and Highbridge, thanked the veterans and representatives from armed forces charities for attending the parade and praised residents for coming out to support them.
