VOLUNTEERS from the Friends of Burnham-on-Sea War Memorial Hospital raised more than £1,500 for the hospital by hosting a garden party.

On Sunday, June 30 deputy mayor, Nick Tolley, opened the garden party and visitors enjoyed taking part in a range of activities including games, face painting, hair braiding.

Ceri Joyce, vice chairman of The Friends extended her thanks to the wonderful volunteers who helped make the day so successful and to everyone who attended to support the event.

She said: "The whole afternoon raised a staggering £1630.

"Drummers were in attendance on the front lawn, which were very entertaining. The Deputy Mayor officially opened the Garden Party and highlighted how important the hospital is to our local community. Cream Teas were served all afternoon, there were delicious cakes on sale. We also had our infamous bottle stall, ‘surprise’ tombola, quality hand crafted goods, quality Bric-a-Brac, books, jigsaws and jewellery on sale."

The Friends will be hosting coffee mornings at Burnham Methodist Church in College Street on July 20 and August 17 and they will also be running a stall on August 26 at the Manor Gardens Fete.
