A DETERMINED double amputee is taking on his biggest challenge yet by tackling a 10 mile course and 25 obstacles to raise money for charity.

Toby French from Burnham-on-Sea is taking part in the Tough Mudder Challenge next month in aid of two charities which are close to his heart.

The 29-year-old whose legs are both amputated below the knee, has been taking on unique fitness challenges throughout this year and has recently completed the 5km Tough Mudder Challenge.

Speaking ahead of the challenge, Toby, said: "Each year I’m looking to do a charity challenge.

"It was supposed to be the three peaks but hills and amputees don’t get on very well so last week my personal trainer asked if I was doing Tough Mudder again and said I should go all out and do the full 10 miles for charity.

"I recently completed the 5km Tough Mudder challenge in Bristol after not running for nearly six months.

"It was tough but it was a great challenge to take on."

Toby said he is hoping to raise £500 for The Alzheimers Society and BARB Search and Rescue by completing the challenge and said he thinks this challenge will be his biggest yet.

"I am taking on this challenge to raise money for two charities which are close to my heart," Toby said.

"One is The Alzheimer’s Society as they do a lot of research into dementia.

"I have first hand experience in how destructive the disease is as my mum suffers from dementia.

"As I’m a team member at BARB Search and Rescue I decided to raise funds for them as well.

"We are completely voluntary and solely rely on donations. I didn’t think it would be fair to raise funds for someone else."
