THE fire service said there is structural damage to a hotel as firefighters continue battle to bring a huge fire at the venue under control.
Avon Fire and Rescue Service said more than 50 firefighters are battling a major blaze at the Premier Inn at Cribbs Causeway, near Bristol.
A spokesman for Avon Fire and Rescue Service, said: "We were called at 1.17pm and crews from across the Service attended, along with three turntable ladders and other special service equipment.
"On arrival, firefighters in breathing apparatus entered the building but were withdrawn due to extensive fire that spread quickly causing structural damage.
"Crews worked hard with resources available to control the fire and prevent it spreading to neighbouring businesses.
"Operations will continue for sometime as we get the fire under control. Staff have worked hard with our partner agencies to ensure the local community remains safe and the cordons will remain in place for public safety.
"We will aim to open any closed roads as soon as possible, once safe to do so. We would like to thank partner agencies such as the police, ambulance and highways for all their tireless work and support.
"We would also like to thank neighbouring fire and rescue services that have provided support and cover at some stations to ensure resilience across the service area."
Avon and Somerset Police tweeted and declared a major incident at around 5pm today (July 17) due to the amount of emergency service personell at the scene.
A major incident was declared shortly after 5pm, following the fire at the Preimer Inn, Cribbs Causeway.
