SAINTS prop Alex Walmsley donned the Great Britain shirt at its unveiling today.

The Lions will play their first games for more than a decade this autumn when they travel to play tests against Tonga, New Zealand and Papua New Guinea.

Walmsley and teammate Tommy Makinson took part in the shirt unveiling day – and that has already whetted the appetite of the big front rower.

Walmsley said: “When you think of Great Britain I look back to those teams of the early noughties, you saw Scully, Wello, Jamie Peacock, Longy and Adrian Morley – all heroes of mine when I was growing up.

“Watching those series those years ago has stuck in my mind.

“You only ever get so many chances in a short career and if I am lucky enough to be selected it would be something to be proud of.

“If I got the chance to walk through the history and wear that same jersey it would be an unbelievable honour. The thought is already whetting my appetite.”

Great Britain has been revived this year – which means there is a good chance open for Saints’ on-song Welsh pair Regan Grace and Morgan Knowles to join the England contingent.

“Regan and Morgs have really stepped it up in recent years and have put themselves in the reckoning with some consistent performances.

“Morgs is a future leader of our club and he really leads our pack. He is going to put himself in a good place.

Likewise with Regan, not many can finish a try like him and I am sure he fit in the GB set up,” Walmsley said.

The Rugby Football League and Hummel unveiled the jersey that will be worn by the first Great Britain Rugby League Lions team to travel to the southern hemisphere since 2006 – while Dacia have been confirmed as principal partners.

The iconic blue and red V will return on a four-match tour of New Zealand and Papua New Guinea – and the jersey design has already brought memories flooding back of famous GB players and teams of the past, from the group of current players who were invited to film the launch video in Manchester and Sydney.

The video - titled The Pride Is Back - includes clips of classic moments such as Jonathan Davies’ try against Australia at Wembley in 1994, Clive Sullivan lifting the World Cup in 1972, and older footage of Lions teams entering the field at the Sydney Cricket Ground.

The new GB jersey, produced by renowned Danish sportswear brand Hummel, is available to order with a range of other merchandise from https://shop.rugby-league.com/#.
