HUNDREDS of pupils and staff at Caereinion High School took part in a 5K run around the school fields to raise money for charity.

More than £6,000 was raised by students in Years 7 to 10 and staff who took part in the ‘Race For Life - Race at your Place’.

The secondary school will be sharing the generous sum of money between four charities that were chosen by the pupils: Cancer Research UK, Wales Air Ambulance, Young Minds and When You Wish Upon a Star.

When You Wish Upon a Star is a charity that has supported two pupils from the school. The work carried out by the charity grants the wishes of children living with a life threatening illness.

For more than 10 years, Caereinion High School has supported the Race For Life event at various locations. This year the school decided to hold the event at the school again so that everyone could get involved.

Sixth Form students got involved by organising cake stalls, selling fruit, sweets and organising a 5K track ready for the big day.

The fastest runners to cross the finishing line were Iestyn Pryce (Year 10), Caitlyn Bloor (Year 8) and Seran Pryce (Year 7) and the quickest member of staff was Mrs Jane James.

“What a fantastic day!” teacher and event organiser Delyth Roberts said.

“We would like to thank all pupils, parents and everyone who kindly sponsored our pupils. The amount raised surpassed all expectations reaching a staggering £6,139.03!

“This is an outstanding achievement for those who took part and for Caereinion High School and is a true reflection of our pupils’ and staff’s determination.”
