A TV star will be in Taunton this week for an antiques sale.

Greenslade Taylor Hunt’s Octagon Salerooms, in East Reach, will play host to a BBC film crew - including presenter Paul Martin of Flog It! fame - as the monthly antiques sale takes place.

Popular BBC show Make Me A Dealer has been filming at the auction room tomorrow (August 1) and will be there as the monthly antiques auction gets underway at 10am.

Presenter Paul will help two contestants as they attempt to buy items at auction and sell them on for a profit for a forthcoming edition of the show.

There is plenty on offer at the sale for experts like Paul and those with less seasoned buying skills.

There is a sophisticated selection of jewellery to tempt at a range of price points.

Among the stand out items is a late Victorian diamond flowerhead brooch/pendant. The principle diamond at the centre approx. 0.85cts, radiating 12 petals each set with smaller diamonds, the inner petals extended with diamond knife-edge collet 'buds', the other 60 old-cut diamonds approx. 4.10cts total, set throughout in silver and gold and with a removable brooch fitting. This has a guide price of £2,500-£3,000.

An Indian high carat necklace is another impressive piece. The front designed as a central raised oval panel decorated with facetted-bars and rope work between graduating rows of beads and suspending a short fringe, the clasp indistinctly stamped. It has a pre-sale estimate of £600-£800.

The sale will also feature a fine collection of West Country Art as well as the usual full range of antique items from watches and ceramics to furniture, books and collectables.

All the items are on view from 8.30am today.
