A MULTI-agency search was launched in a bid to find a missing child in Berrow.

Burnham-on-Sea Coastguard, BARB Search and Rescue and Avon and Somerset Police were called to the John Fowler Sandy Glade Holiday Park in Coast Road at around 11.45pm on Sunday (August 11).

Initially information was limited so volunteers from Burnham Coastguard and BARB met with an informant and Avon and Somerset Police at Sandy Glade Holiday Park.

The child had last been seen heading across the nature reserve towards the beach followed by other family members.

A spokesman for Burnham Coastguard, said: "We sent the Coastguard Rescue Vehicle to drive along the beach performing a torchlit search from Berrow to Brean Down while BARB Search & Rescue - Burnham-on-Sea hovercraft were tasked and with their all terrain vehicle did the same search from Burnham Town Slip to Berrow.

"The police helicopter meanwhile was carrying out a thermal imaging scan of the sand dunes, nature reserve and beach.

After nearly three hours it was decided everywhere in our search area had been covered to a suitable level and that there were no persons in the area at that time.

"We were then stood down by our operations centre and returned home to get some precious sleep before the morning alarm woke us ready for work.

"The first informant did the right thing and called it in as soon as there appeared to be a problem.

"A big thanks go to the Chefs Corner Cafe in Sandy Glade Holiday Park for providing everyone with tea and coffee, a very kind and generous gesture."

A spokesman for Avon and Somerset Police confirmed the boy was later found safe and well.

If you see someone in difficulty along the coast call 999 and ask for the Coastguard.
