A FUNFAIR is set to return to Minehead after nearly 20 years.

Danters Funfair will be bringing the fair back to town after what is estimated to be two decades since the last one took place.

Minehead Town Council has worked hard to secure the fair and has now confirmed it is set to take place on Wednesday, September 4, until Saturday, September 7, from 5-9pm.

Cllr Toni Bloomfield and deputy town mayor cllr Paul Bolton worked with the showmen to identify suitable sites for the fairground.

Approval was then given at full council and a public consultation chose Alcombe Marsh Common as the most popular site.

Cllr Bloomfield proposed the council write to Leigh Danter to invite him to bring his funfair to the site near to the Rose Garden, which was passed unanimously on July 23.

Cllr Toni Bloomfield said: "Please show your support and come down for all the fun of the fair.

"This is such a great return for Minehead after years of not having a funfair.

"I think that if we pull together and give the showmen something worth coming for we can look forward to many more returns in years to come."

Mayor of Minehead, Cllr Sandra Slade, thanked cllr Bloomfield and Bolton for their efforts in returning the fair to town.

She said: “Many people have asked over the years 'why can't we have a funfair'.

"As a council we have listened and this is the result.

"Now we need the people of Minehead to show their support with their feet - come along and join in the fun."

The fair will feature an exciting lineup of rides, including the only Rock Rage KMG-built ride to travel the UK.

As well as the rides, there will also be a selection of refreshments and game stands.

Showman, Leigh Danter, said: “We are extremely excited to be supplying Minehead with our family fun fair. We hope we bring family fun and the local community together.

"There will be family attractions and thrill rides, guaranteed to be something for everyone to enjoy at the fair.

"We look forward to your support so that we can make this an annual fair."
