Watford claimed their first point of the season with a scrappy draw away at Newcastle United.

Javi Gracia shuffled his pack ahead of the game and chose to field a different formation.

Here's how we evaluated the players' performances:

Ben Foster - 6

The goalkeeper kept the Hornets in the match with some vital saves, but perhaps could have done more to keep Fabian Schar's equaliser out.

Daryl Janmaat - 6

The Dutch full-back returned to his former club looking to make an impact, but rarely got the opportunity to contribute in attack.

He had a tough game against arguably Newcastle's best player in Christian Atsu, but stood his ground firmly and prevented some clear cut chances.

Craig Cathcart - 6

A solid enough defensive display from the Northern Irishman on his 150th appearance for the club.

Looked more assured with extra help at the back.

Christian Kabasele - 6

After a tough start to the match in which Miguel Almiron managed to slip round the back, the Belgian adapted well and looked assured.

His block in the second half possibly denied Newcastle a second.

Craig Dawson - 6

The former West Brom man is still struggling to deal with life in the Premier League, but is showing some improvement.

Another who benefitted from the addition of the extra centre-back.

Kiko Femenia - 5

The weakest of the defenders, Femenia is still neglecting his defensive duties and leaving others short-changed.

He did come close to scoring early on, but looks a little bit out of his league at the moment.

Abdoulaye Doucoure - 6

Held his own well against Newcastle's midfielders, but gave the ball away cheaply on a couple of occasions.

Still, a vast improvement on previous weeks.

Tom Cleverley - 6

Did nothing glamorous, but battled well in midfield and looked comfortable as part of a central three.

Maybe could have done better with a second-half chance.

Will Hughes - 7

Dusted himself down after last week's glaring miss and took his early chance with aplomb.

Always looked busy and worked tirelessly before he was substituted.

Roberto Pereyra - 5

The Argentine was full of running, but his end product was nowhere to be seen.

Barely made an impact on the game, but suffered from a lack of service.

Andre Gray - 5

Much the same as Pereyra, Gray was starved up front, but failed to get himself involved.

He missed a good chance late on when substitute Isaac Success found him in the area with a neat ball.

Substitutes:

Isaac Success - 6

Got himself in a good position to score on more than one occasion, but lacked composure.

Gave the Newcastle defenders something more to think about.

Nathaniel Chalobah - 5

Didn't really offer anything different than what was already on show. Quickly blended into the background.

Gerard Deulofeu - N/A

Joined the game too late to make a real impact.
