FOUR Burnham-on-Sea residents were honoured for their service to the community at a special ceremony.

On Sunday (September 8) scores of people packed into St Andrew’s Church in Burnham-on-Sea to watch Dave Parson, Janet Chalmers, Dom Gregory and Bernard Spilsbury be presented with Civic Awards.

The winners were selected by Burnham and Highbridge Town Council from a list of nominees submitted by the public.

The awards recognise people who have shown outstanding service to the community, made a significant contribution to public life in Burnham and Highbridge and have shown dedication in helping residents.

The Mayor of Burnham and Highbridge Cllr Andy Brewer and Mayoress, Lorna Brewer, led the procession alongside the High Sherriff of Somerset, Johnnie Halliday, and presented the winners with a framed certificate and a special lapel badge engraved with their name.

Visitors then went to Southwell Gardens in Highbridge and enjoyed a civic tea with the Mayor and Mayoress and a number of Somerset dignitaries.

A spokesman for Burnham and Highbridge Town Council, said: “Congratulations to Janet Chalmers, Lt.(SCC)Dom Gregory, David Parsons & Bernard Spilsbury whose positive contributions to the community have been recognised through well deserved Civic Awards.”
