COLOURFUL blooms and handmade quilts illuminated a Burnham-on-Sea church as a three day festival kicked off in the town.

The annual Flower and Quilts Festival, which ran from September 12 to 14 saw quilters from across Somerset display their work to visitors.

Groups from churches, quilt groups, flower clubs and members of Burnham Parkinson Disease Group, worked together to set up the quilts and flowers for visitors to view.

Visitors also had the chance to buy quilting patterns, learn flower arranging tips and buy delicious homemade cakes and bakes from talented local bakers.

Pat Nicholls, organiser of the event said it was a ‘huge success’ with more than 450 visitors, including some from Devon, Bristol, Gloucestershire and Bath, coming to the event over the three days.

She said: “We had a fantastic three days at the event, it was a great experience to see so many people across the community working together in such harmony.

“A few months ago, floral artists had chosen a quilt provided by the quilters, and designed their displays to complement the quilt.

“Pupils from St Joseph’s School had a quilt there this year and they were absolutely delighted to see their quilt displayed.

“It was a fantastic event and we would like to thank everyone who displayed work over three days and everyone who attended. We are already looking forward to next year’s event.”
