A RECORDING studio based in the picturesque Blackdown Hills was left shaking by an epic metal band last week after they stormed to success at the County Gazette Somerset Show’s battle of the bands competition.

After the fun family event, held in July, Dremora were crowned the champions by the judges - James Willment, owner of Muddy Road Studios, and Paul Jones, editor of the County Gazette and Chard & Ilminster News.

After sitting down with studio owner and producer James, the hard-hitting five piece wasted no time in laying down four completed tracks in two days.

The band formed in 2017 and is made up of Gemma Philip (vocals), Chris Threlfall (drums), Dave Hunt and Trunks Saunders (guitar), and Daniel Shannon (bass).

Talking about their battle of the band victory, Gemma said: “We were really shocked and happy that we won.

“We were dreading going on stage when we first showed up and saw the crowd.

“We aren’t really a family friendly band, but the fact we had some friends and family there helped, and then people did start to interact with us and nod along.

“It was really good. We always manage to draw the crowd in.”

The four Muddy Road tracks will now make up the band’s second EP, with the professional studio time really allowig the band to find its sound.

Studio owner James said: “The way they talked really passionately about the songs was inspiring. Paul and I were so blown away with them.”

Chris, the group’s drummer, said: “It has been a really good experience and we have had plenty of time to try different ways of recording.

“We have got some of our best takes ever here possibly.”
