THE building of a new community hub will hopefully be completed late next year after plans were approved.

Bishop’s Hull Parish Council applied for planning permission to build a new community hub, which would replace the 30-year-old facility which is set to be knocked down next year.

The new hub would feature a kitchen, main hall, toilets and a foyer and would host an array of activities and events.

Chairman of the Bishop’s Hull Hub committee, Richard Holland, said it’s now onto the final push for funding, with the hopes of completing the project by November next year.

“It is very satisfying to achieve planning permission,” he said.

“It’s after so much hard work by the committee and our volunteers.

“We have 12 volunteers altogether and we get so much support from the community.

“Our volunteers have seemingly limitless energy when it comes to organising community events.

“The new building will replace the old parish Hall which will be demolished in 2020.”

The final fundraising target stands at £420,000, with £275,000 raised so far.

The group is waiting to hear back from other grant funding applications, as well as running its own projects such as the ‘buy a brick’ scheme.

Mr Holland added: “This gives us the impetus to go the final furlong.

“The future is to continue gathering funds together.

“We are hopefully looking to start early in the new year and we hope to be complete in November 2020, shortly before the other building is demolished.

“My thanks goes to everyone who has contributed so far and special thanks go to our volunteers and committee members.”

County and district councillor for Bishop’s Hull, John Hunt, said: “It is indeed great news for Bishop’s Hull and the wider area.

“This project has been made possible with the support of the whole community, led by the Bishop’s Hull Hub Trust.

“Made up from local people of all ages, the Hub Trust trustees and volunteers, want to live in and contribute to, a vibrant caring community.

“I would like to pay tribute to their hard work in driving this project forward, and wish them well with the continued fundraising and of course the build itself.”
