SUSTAINABILITY will be the main focus when eat:Burnham returns to Burnham-on-Sea next week, organisers have said.

The popular food and drink festival, which is run by the eat:Festivals team, is returning to Burnham’s town centre on October 26 and promises to be a feast for the senses with more than 50 local producers and live entertainment scheduled to appear.

Organisers said this year they are focusing on the event’s ‘sustainability credentials’ and all food and drink producers attending the event will be single-use plastic free.

A spokesman for eat: Festivals, said: “All of them will be single-use plastic free, but what does this mean in practice?

“Well it means no plastic carrier bags for starters - so make sure you remember you tote bags and panniers.

“All the packaging for food and drink on the day will be compostable and items you take home will be recyclable or compostable.

“There is lots going on at the all day festival but the organisers hope you take the opportunity to explore the many shops and businesses in Burnham-on-Sea on the day too.”

The eat:Festivals team are working with Griffin Cycles to encourage visitors to cycle into the festival and are offering a free cycle check up and rucksack cover to anyone cycling in.

The organisers said they are bringing bins to collect extra waste on the day and are inviting local clubs, groups or societies who want to raise some extra cash to volunteer to litter pick.

Victoria Street, Princess Street, part of High Street, College Street and Regent Street will all be closed to traffic from 6am to 6pm on October 26.
