TAUNTON Town head of football Rob Dray said that his side picking up the pace was crucial in their 4-1 win over Wimborne Town last night, which secured passage to the FA Trophy second qualifying round.

Having drawn 2-2 at Cuthbury on Saturday, the Peacocks fell behind to Kieran Roberts' early strike in last night's replay, only for goals from Andrew Neal, Lewis Hall, Matt Wright and Ollie Chamberlain to secure a home win.

Dray told the County Gazette afterwards: "In the first half we looked lethargic, players were waiting for somebody else to do something rather than going out and grabbing hold of the game.

"I expect our lads to grab games by the scruff of the neck, and we said at half-time, 'whatever we do, we've got to do it quick'.

"As soon as we did that in the second half, we were outstanding.

"We had good runners, and we played some fantastic stuff, so I was really pleased."

"We got a draw on Saturday, which perhaps we shouldn't have, so we had them down here and if you smell blood you have to go for it."

Taunton will now host Aveley, of the Isthmian League North Division, on Saturday, November 9, with £3,000 in prize money up for grabs.

Dray added: "It's great to have the prize money and a good home draw, which sets us up for the next couple of weeks, as we've had some tough away games already this year.

"[Aveley] is a trip into the unknown, but I've got a report coming on them already and I've done a bit of YouTube on them.

"We'll have our homework done on them, we'll know enough."

Before that, the Peacocks welcome Hendon to the Cygnet Health Care Stadium for their next league fixture this Saturday (ko 3pm).

Looking ahead to that one, Dray said: "We've got to be right on Saturday, because they [Hendon] will be difficult and they've not had a midweek game.

"We need to turn up, play with that intensity and pass the ball with more positivity – because I don't think many teams can live with us when we're like that.

"We're a target now, especially down here – you saw here tonight, they had 11 men behind the ball for 60 to 70 minutes, which makes it hard.

"You've just got to be patient, because I know that we will create chances and we will score."

The Taunton boss expects to have a full squad on Saturday.

Striker Neal was taken off as a precaution at half-time last night, having felt a tight hamstring, but should be fit for the weekend.
