South West Women’s League
Premier Division
Middlezoy Rovers 2, Ilminster Town 1

MIDDLEZOY Rovers Ladies scored two goals in the last couple of minutes to stun local rivals Ilminster Town and bag all three points on Sunday.

The hosts found themselves 1-0 down inside the first five minutes at the Aerodrome, with Charlie Pettinger heading in from a corner to put Ilminster ahead early on.

Sarah Carling went close to an equaliser on a couple of occasions, but Zoy were grateful not to be further behind when Colette Martin’s effort hit the crossbar.

The scoreline remained 1-0 as the clock ticked past the 89-minute mark, but then a Zoy corner was touched in by Megan Hill to equalise.

The hosts weren’t happy to settle for a point, either, as a quick break and cross into the box led to Ellie Orritt bagging the winner in stoppage time.

The result takes Zoy up to sixth place on six points, one point behind Ilminster, and the teams resume hostilities this weekend – the reverse fixture taking place at Ilminster’s Archie Gooch Pavilion on Sunday (ko 2pm).

MIDDLEZOY Rovers’ men’s 1st XI had been due to play away to their Ilminster Town counterparts in the Uhlsport Somerset County League on Saturday, only for it to be called off due to a waterlogged pitch.

Zoy, who sit eighth in the Premier Division standings, are scheduled to host basement side Worle this coming Saturday (ko 2.30pm).

They then have a wait of two weeks for their next match, away to Shirehampton on Friday, November 22.

Middlezoy Rovers Reserves did play on Saturday, and won 1-0 at home to Hutton thanks to Dan Lismore’s second-half strike.

Zoy are six points clear at the top of Division 2, albeit having played two more games than second-placed Welton Rovers Reserves.

This Saturday sees them travel to AFC Brislington in the Division 2 & 3 Cup (ko 2.30pm).
