THE music of the legendary jazz performer Chick Corea is subject to a 21st century makeover at Ilminster Arts Centre, courtesy of the Al Swainger Quartet and guitarist Ant Law.

Swainger’s Biophosmos quartet is a four piece jazz ensemble that uses modern technology to take the art form in a unique and daring new direction. Ant Law is in the top echelon of UK guitarists and frequently appears with Al’s group.

These highly accomplished musicians will be playing a mix of classic and original music inspired by the compositions of jazz pianist Chick Corea, but reimagined for the more up-to-date 21st century ear.

The quartet said: “Mix Chick Corea with Radiohead in a blender then use the resulting cocktail to write film music and you might get something a little like this, a melodic soundscape of latin, fusion and ambience guaranteed to surprise and delight.”

Bass player Al Swainger has been in the top five for the British Jazz Awards several times in recent years. He performs regularly with Digby Fairweather’s Half-Dozen, the Annika Skoogh Quartet and Ed Leaker’s Swing Machine.

Guitarist Ant Law is a member of Trio HLK who record/tour with Dame Evelyn Glennie. He has also worked with Cory Henry and Thomas Gould.
