IT was a dream Sunday for Bishops Lydeard Ladies, as their two teams in action scored 16 goals between them.

Lydeard’s 1st XI travelled to Torquay United, who lie at the bottom of the South West Women’s League Premier Division table, and they showed no mercy to their beleaguered hosts.

The away side were 1-0 up inside five minutes and led 6-0 at half-time.

The final score was 10-0, with Amber Guy-Kemp netting five of the goals by herself.

Holly Miller was also in fine scoring form, grabbing a hat-trick, while Caitlin Berry and Hannah Delbridge got one goal apiece.

Now sitting third in the Premier Division standings, Lydeard face Torquay again this Sunday (ko 2pm), in the reverse fixture at Cothelstone Road.

There were only a couple of games played in the Somerset County Women’s League, and one of them saw Lydeard Ladies Development beat Stockwood Wanderers 6-4.

The fixture pitted the Division 2 leaders against their nearest rivals, and goals from Jodie Dingle (2), Emily Bertin (2), Jade Brammall and Sarah Lindsay did the job for the visitors.

They are now six points clear at the top, having won six from six in the league this season, and this Sunday they entertain Purnell Sports Reserves (2pm).

FORMER Bishops Lydeard Ladies star Emily Syme was on target for Aston Villa Women as they shocked Liverpool in the Continental Cup on Sunday.

Villa, who lead the Women’s Championship table, beat their top tier opponents 2-0 at Boldmere St Michaels, with Syme scoring the clincher in the 83rd minute.

The hosts had led since the sixth minute, when Emma Follis fired in from the edge of the box, but it took a goal from substitute Syme to wrap it up.

The midfielder from Taunton played a one-two with Kerri Welsh inside her own half, then raced clear down the left before curling her shot across goalkeeper Anke Preuss, who could only help it on its way into the top corner.

The result leaves Villa third in Group A of the competition, on six points – three behind Durham, level with Sheffield United and three ahead of Liverpool.

Villa’s next match is on Sunday, November 17, away to Coventry United; the visitors will be aiming to continue their push for promotion into the Women’s Super League for next year.
