A popular Marlow bar recently won an award at this year’s Brakspear's Hospitality Awards.

Clayton’s Marlow, who are based on the Oxford Road, took home the ‘Best Bar-Focused’ award at this year’s ceremony, which was held at the Little Angel in Henley-on-Thames.

Clayton's landlord, Antosh Samek, was presented with a plaque and a prize of £500 - which Brakspear is doubling to £1,000 if the money is to be spent on refurbishing the pub.

Judges praised the bar for ‘its great range of drinks with a focus on cocktails’, and for its ‘active programme of events including DJ nights, film club screenings and pub quiz, which attract customers from miles around and often sell out in advance’.

Additionally, the growth of sales, the mystery customer scores and Tripadvisor reports were also used in the judging process, which helped the bar win the top prize.

Speaking following the win, Antosh said: "It's great to win recognition for what we're doing at Clayton's.

“We're tucked down a side street, so we have to give people a reason to find us, which is why we've built up our events.

“People come in for a DJ night or the film club, enjoy the drinks and the atmosphere and then come back another time, maybe for cocktails with friends.

"It's taken a while to build up our profile, but we're delighted with how Clayton's is performing now, our events draw a great crowd and there's a fantastic atmosphere in the bar every weekend."

Chief executive Tom Davies said: "Every year, the awards shortlist reminds us of the talented landlords and landladies we are lucky enough to have running pubs with us.

Choosing this year's winners was far from easy and they should all be proud of their achievement."
