Holgate Bridge has now reopened following an earlier collision.
Police attending a serious crash on Holgate Bridge and Dalton Terrace at around 3pm.
North Yorkshire Police said that the road has now been reopened and that "traffic will be slow in the area. We thank you for your patience."
Earlier on, the force said: "Reports of a serious road traffic collision on the Bridge in Holgate and Dalton Terrace.
"Traffic will not be able to come down Dalton Terrace, from Blossom Street on to Holgate Road and Holgate Road to the Iron Bridge.
"Please bear with us until proper diversions can be put in place."
