RESIDENTS had a chance to have a look inside the new YMCA Highbridge building at a special Christmas carolling event.
On Thursday (December 19) visitors enjoyed Christmas carols from The Coastline Singers as well as mulled wine and a roast turkey lunch in the building’s new community cafe.
The new YMCA building, which is due to open in January 2020, includes a new community cafe, a large multi-use sports hall and a number of modern meeting rooms as well as 23 homes for young people.
The original hotel building laid derelict for a number of years after being devastated by two fires in six years.
Mayor of Highbridge Cllr Andy Brewer said: “It was a pleasure to visit the new YMCA building on the site of the former Highbridge Hotel this evening.
“It is great to see the building work coming to completion and the new facilities coming into use. The building has been fitted out to a very high standard and I’m sure it will soon become a great asset to the community.”
