FREE cancer information and support is coming to Somerset this month.

From Monday, January 13 to Friday, January 17, Macmillan Cancer Support's mobile service will be visiting Bridgwater, Taunton, Chard, Crewkerne and Yeovil with cancer information specialists on hand to answer questions and provide information.

The team encourages anyone with worries relating to cancer to stop by, whether you’re living with cancer, or care for someone who is.

The team are highlighting issues around the financial impact of cancer which can be particularly hard for people just after Christmas.

Macmillan research shows that 83% of people are, on average, £570 a month worse off because of a cancer diagnosis.

This is often due to being unable to work and having increased costs such as travel to hospital or increased fuel bills.

The bus will be at the following locations this month:

Monday, January 13: 10am – 4pm: Bridgwater – near Robert Blake Statue, Cornhill TA6 3BU

Tuesday, January 14: 10am – 4pm: Taunton - By Mr Miles Tea & Coffee House and Boots. High Street TA1 3PT

Wednesday, January 15: 10am – 4pm: Chard - Tesco, Tapstone Road TA20 2LW

Thursday, January 16: 10am – 4pm: Crewkerne - By Humphries Kirk, 17 Market Street TA18 7JU

Friday, January 17: 9am – 3pm: Yeovil - Morrisons, Lysander Road BA20 2AU

Elaine Perry, a Macmillan information and support specialist on the unit, said: "It’s really important that people living with cancer are able to access the financial advice and support they are entitled to, so they can focus on what’s most important: their health.

"We can help signpost people to Macmillan benefits advisers who can provide free, confidential advice.

"On the dates mentioned above, we’re here to answer any questions about cancer. Whether you want to know what symptoms to look out for, need advice about managing the side effects of your treatment, or want to find local support for carers, come along and see us. We’d be happy to help."
