MORE than 20 volunteers gave up their time to clear away and burn sea buckthorn at Berrow Dunes Local Nature Reserve.

29 volunteers including members of the Sedgemoor Conservation Volunteers, members of Berrow Conservation Group and students from Millfield School braved the wet weather on Sunday (January 26) to clear away sea-buckthorn scrub and plant native shrubs.

A spokesperson for Sedgemoor District Council said the event was a success.

"Despite the wet weather, all taking part worked really hard and have made a positive contribution to the biodiversity of the Site of Special Scientific Interest, so we would like to thank those who took part," the spokesperson said.

"The next event is on Sunday, February 16. The Bristol Conservation Volunteers will be visiting the reserve then to undertake sand fencing repairs and sea buckthorn control."
