STAFF at Sedgemoor District Council collected empty sweetie tubs from friends and family after Christmas and gathered up a massive 287 tubs for a recycling scheme.
The empty sweet tubs were taken to DCW Polymers depot in South Brent and were shredded into granules which will be recycled to make new plastic products.
A spokesperson for Sedgemoor District Council said: “The granules will be sold back to the UK plastic manufacturing industry to make new plastic products.
“The profits raised from selling the granules (approximately £130) will be donated to Dartmoor Zoo who will use the funds to continue their conservation work and support the animals.”
