A CAVING experience has earned a Somerset tourist attraction a top award.

Wookey Hole has been awarded GOLD for its Wild Wookey caving experience, in the Active and Sporting Experience category in this year’s South West England Tourism Excellence Awards.

The award ceremony took place on February 6 at Exeter Cathedral.

Wild Wookey sees visitors venture into the darkest recesses of Wookey Hole’s caves, guided by highly experienced instructors, and has adventurers immersed in a secret subterranean universe.

"We are extremely proud of our team who work tirelessly to make sure every visitor has an experience like no other and leaves us with a huge smile on their face.”

This year’s awards saw a record 773 entries from the region including Wiltshire, Gloucestershire, Bath, Bristol, Somerset, Dorset, Devon, Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.
