KIND-HEARTED members of a Burnham-on-Sea group have donated £400 to Highbridge Foodbank to help them during the coronavirus crisis.

Burnham Moose International Lodge's ladies circle has donated £150 and Pete Nicholson from the men's circle handed over two cheques to volunteers on Tuesday (April 21) to help them to buy food for the foodbank.

One cheque for £150 was donated from Burnham on Sea Lodge 123 and £100 was donated on behalf of Moose Legion 8.

Each year members Burnham Moose International Lodge raise money which they support local charities and Pete said the group are 'only too glad' to help the foodbank during these extraordinary times.

"We appreciate that £400 is only a small amount of what the food bank needs but we hope it will help and we appreciate all the hard work and dedication of the food bank volunteers," Pete said.

"Since the Covid 19 the demand has doubled, I was shown around, they have a fantastic system set up in the Methodist Church in Burnham making most of the space whilst the church is closed for normal functions. One of their biggest problems at this time is getting the right products to make up the food bags.

"I was asked to pass on their thanks to Moose for our support.”

Nick Bashford from Highbridge Foodbank said the foodbank is 'very grateful' for the donation from the group.

“Our foodbank has never been busier and we can only continue to provide food for local people in financial crisis with the support of our local community.

"We are very grateful for this wonderful donation from members of the local Moose organisation.”

The group is currently on lockdown due to Covid-19 but said it continues to support its 'vulnerable' members online in line with Government regulations and advice.
