A MAN who died after being struck by a train took his own life, a coroner has ruled.
Ian Thompson, 57, was hit by a train on the northbound railway line at Brent Knoll on December 17, 2019.
At an inquest in Taunton on Wednesday (May 20) senior coroner Tony Williams said Mr Thompson, who lived in Brent Knoll, died of 'multiple traumatic injuries' and recorded a conclusion of suicide.
Speaking after the inquest Mr Williams said: "On December 17, 2019 on the northbound railway line at Brent Knoll, Ian Thompson deliberately placed himself in front of a highspeed train with the intention of ending his life.
"Mr Thompson, of Station Road, Brent Knoll, Highbridge, was 57 years old when he was confirmed dead on December 17, 2019."
