SOMERSET seems to be really making progress in the fight against the coronavirus with no new cases reported for the fifth time in six days.

The county council area has seen just one confirmed case over that period.

It comes after fears were expressed that the rate of infection had been increasing alarmingly.

It has since emerged that many positive results recorded at Musgrove Park Hospital over a period were incorrect, that leading to a false rise in the figures.

The total number of confirmed cases in the county remains at 790.

As things stand, there have been a total of 65 confirmed cases in Mendip; 221 in Sedgemoor; 307 in Somerset West and Taunton; and 197 in South Somerset.

There was one death in the 24 hours to 5pm yesterday (Sunday) reported by the trust runs Weston General Hospital. But it was not specified where that death took place - and the trust also covers hospitals in Bristol.
