TAUNTON-BORN footballer Archie Collins played a starring role in Exeter City's extra-time victory over Colchester United in the League Two play-offs.

Exeter trailed 1-0 from the first leg, took an aggregate lead thanks to goals from Aaron Martin and Jayden Richardson, but the visitors forced extra time through Courtney Senior.

Step forward Collins. The 20-year-old midfielder held off a challenge in the centre circle and played a perfectly judged through ball for Ryan Bowman to run on to and score the winning goal.

That means Exeter are in their third League Two play-off final in the last four years, and they will face Northampton Town at Wembley on Monday, June 29, for a place in League One.

Collins hails from Edington, just outside of Bridgwater, and began his footballing journey at Ashcott Youth, before being spotted at an Exeter development centre at Chilton Trinity School as an under-8 player.

He has been part of Exeter's Academy ever since, making his 1st XI debut for the Grecians in the Checkatrade Trophy against Chelsea Under-21s in the 2017/18 season.
