A WOMAN who has been in business in Taunton for 25 years is shutting up shop.

Kim Tolman has decided not to re-open her sewing repairs and alterations premises in Station Road following lockdown.

The shop has been a feature of the road with colourful displays marking special occasions such as Somerset Day, Valentine's Day, Christmas and Hallowe'en.

Ms Tolman said she has had "time to reflect" during lockdown, when she has been making scrubs for the NHS, working on home furnishings and making garments for herself.

She posted on social media: "This time has made me realise just how much I enjoy the creative side of my work, using the full range of skills and experience I have gained over the years.

"So, as I head into my 25th year of business in Taunton, I have made the decision to not re-open my shop.

"I have decided to focus more on being creative in my 'new normal' and to work on a more bespoke basis."

She will still offer an alteration and repair service and will continue to work alongside some of the stores and boutiques in the county town.

She will also run a bespoke mobile service collecting and delivering customers' alterations.

She said: "This is our 'new normal', so we are still finding our way with that side of the business.

"I would like to thank all my customers for their support. I have many loyal and long-standing customers whom I can now call friends.

"I wish to thank all the businesses and shops that have supported me over the years and continue to do so.

"Also a huge thank you to all my wonderful staff who I’ve had the pleasure to work alongside, both past and present. You have been an integral part of my business over the years and I could not have done it without you."
