A POPULAR youth centre is set to open its doors this weekend after being closed for three months.

Burnham Area Youth Centre (BAY) Centre in Cassis Close has been closed since the country went into lockdown in March but the centre's trustees committee have been meeting online to ensure its long-term viability.

After discussions the trustees decided to reopen the centre on Saturday, July 11.

Work has been carried out behind the scenes to do risk assessments and give groups the necessary documentation about social distancing and being Covid secure.

Groups will only be allowed back to the centre after they have provided comprehensive risk assessment and the centre is working to put social distancing reminder signs in the building.

Mike Lang, chairman of the BAY Centre, said the committee realises that some groups will find it difficult to social distance and the centre's booking calendar will reserve those groups’ attendance dates but with the proviso that those dates can be let out on an ad hoc basis.

"To ensure safe use of the centre, any lettings will only be allowed after completion and scrutiny of a dedicated risk assessment. "Booking requests can be initiated by accessing the BAY Centre website www.bayc.uk and completing the online booking form," Mr Lang said.

"Alcohol gel dispensers and sanitizer kits have been installed to assist safe access and use.

"We also acknowledge financial assistance from Burnham Rotary club, in the form of a £250 donation, which assisted our re-opening expenses and we extend our grateful thanks.

"We now look to the future, and the continued role of the BAY Centre in the established area of social inclusion."
