A GROUP of residents held up placards and protested against plans to sell off land at a Highbridge beauty spot to make way for 110 homes.

In February developer Coln Residential won outline planning permission to build 110 homes, a play area and a fitness trail on land between Lakeside and Isleport despite more than 140 objections from residents.

Last month Sedgemoor District Council's (SDC) Executive met and approved the plans to sell the land but a few weeks later Liberal Democrat councillors from SDC 'called in' the Executive's decision to sell the land and the plans are due to be reconsidered on Wednesday (July 22.)

On Saturday (July 18) residents peacefully protested in a field next to Lakeside with pots, pans and placards to show Sedgemoor District Council that they will not give up their fight to stop the land from being sold.

Former Wells MP Tessa Munt and Cllr Phil Harvey from Burnham and Highbridge Town Council were among the people who attended the protest which was held just days before SDC's Executive committee is due to reconsider the plans.
